Refika owes her musical character to her way of life. She lived on three continents, Africa, Asia and Europe. She discovered her interest in world music as a small child. Thanks to her cosmopolitan background, she is able to combine the different sounds and melodies harmoniously and well-sounding. With her singing she would like to build bridges between Oxident and Orient. Her great passion is the frame drum. But she also experiments successfully with rebap and bells.

In her first musical project from 2004, she combined various traditional oriental styles with impulses from western music and thus formed her own musical style. However, the great influence of traditional Turkish and oriental sounds, which she presents creatively in her own compositions, remains unmistakable. She likes to work with many different musicians and entertainers. Specifically, the sources of her inspiration are Persian, Afghan and North African music, as well as Turkish folklore, jazz, blues and pop.

Playfully powerful and percussive pieces of music alternate with ballad-like calm songs and thus lead to a refreshing inner sound journey. The unmistakable and magical voice of Refika is accompanied by guitar, saz, ney flute, bells, cymbals, frame drums and darbuka.

Her current album from 2019, entitled “Can Icinde”, also includes three of her own songs.

Music is what drives me and I really enjoy improvising, she says proudly.
